Back
in our day (the late 70's) it was sort of a
tradition at the local public high school, for
seniors to throw water balloons at each
other. My friends and I were driving
around in my car, throwing water balloons at everyone
we knew, when we pulled up next to a
friend's car at a red light. It was the
perfect opportunity to get them good with a
water balloon, but when I looked over, who
did I see? None other than Tom...but at the
time I didn't know who he was. I just saw
this cute guy and I froze with the water
balloon in my hand. Everyone in my car
started yelling to throw the water balloon
at the same time everyone in our friend's car
started yelling at Tom to roll up the
window. We both reacted at the same time and
my water balloon broke on the window that
Tom got rolled half way up. Needless to
say...Tom got a little bit wet...and then
held up a graduation ticket as the light
turned green and our friends drove away.
I
did end up with the ticket and went to
graduation but it wasn't until later in the
summer that Tom started to do things with
our group of friends.
One night we were all
coming back from the beach, when we
started talking about birthdays. When I said
my birthday was December 14th, Tom couldn't
believe it because he said that's when his
and his twin sister's birthday was.
Something clicked in my head and I remember
my mom telling me many years ago, that the
"twins", who were the youngest siblings of
the guy who my sister dated in high school, had the same
birthday as me. All of a sudden, I started
asking Tom questions, like if he had an older brother who's
name was David and did he date this girl in
high school named Pat? And did he have all
of these brothers who hung out with a guy
named Bob and did Pat and Bob bring their
little sister over to his house and he would
push her into spider webs, just to make her
scream? He said yes to all of the above and
then I told him that I was that little girl
that he loved to torment so! Well, he
apologized for his bad behavior and we
started dating that summer. The rest, as
they say, is history and within a couple of
years, Tom and I were married. |
